We still don’t know when the second season of the new Ranma ½ anime will debut, but it will offer a little sneak peek next month! That’s because on June 22, the movie theater Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo is giving an advanced screening for a lucky few.
Ranma ½ made a point of getting many of the original voice actors to reprise their roles, and some of those voice actors will be at the event, where they will provide a live dubbing session for fans to watch.
The actors confirmed for the event are boy Ranma’s VA Kappei Yamaguchi, girl Ranma’s VA Megumi Hayashibara, Akane’s VA Noriko Hidaka, and Shampoo’s VA Rei Sakuma.
But there will probably be at least one more actor, since the anime’s site tantalizes with the question “& more…?” A picture for the event was released that shows male Ranma, female Ranma, Akane, Shampoo and Mousse, so the going theory is that Mousse’s actor will also attend. So far this actor hasn’t been revealed to the public; perhaps the big reveal will happen at the event itself.
The new Ranma ½ anime is streaming on Netflix.
VIZ Media publishes the original manga by Rumiko Takahashi and gave this description for the first volume of their 2-in-1 edition:
Ranma ½ Plot
Years ago, Genma promised his old friend Soun Tendo that Ranma would marry one of Soun’s three daughters and carry on the family’s martial arts school. Except that the girl picked to be Ranma’s bride doesn’t seem to like him, Ranma keeps getting into fights…and did we mention that whole changing into a girl thing?
VIZ Media also licensed the original anime adaptation.
The new anime suffered from severe leaks last year, as part of a major leak of Netflix shows. It’s being made at MAPPA, with Konosuke Uda of One Piece: Dead End helming the project as director.
