Poster Teases Alexandre Aja’s Cobra Adaptation

Normally I would have been skeptical from the moment a live-action adaptation of Buichi Terasawa’s Space Adventure Cobra manga was announced, but I have faith in Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) to get things right.

That faith is further boosted by the teaser poster that was placed in Variety‘s international edition in an effort to drum up interest in the project at Cannes Film Festival. Its depiction of the burly protagonist hits about all the right checkpoints, and should sooth fans of both the original manga and the late Osamu Dezaki’s anime adaptations.

Of course, this is nothing more than the most basic of teases, but it does give some idea of how faithful Aja—who is both writing (with collaborator Gregory Levasseur) and directing the film—is planning to go with the look. As if 2013 didn’t sound impossibly distant enough…
