Three Original Anime Coming to the Summer 2025 Season

Original anime are on the menu this summer!

As much as we love adaptations of manga, light novels, and games, sometimes you just want something brand new. And fortunately, there are a few original anime coming to the summer 2025 season! Check out these three inventive upcoming titles, from fresh isekai to sports to… streaming and Lovecraft? It’s definitely going to be an interesting season!

Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show

Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show

Cygames has an impressive track record when it comes to original anime series. Past titles include zombie idol series ZOMBIE LAND SAGA and Masami Obari’s hot-blooded mecha anime Brave Bang Bravern! So we can’t wait to see how Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show turns out. This series is being teased as a blend of livestreaming culture and Lovecraftian horror. And it sounds like the exact sort of weird combo that Cygames does surprisingly well.

The series follows streamer Necronomico and her two friends as they dive into a virtual reality game. Exactly how the Cthulhu Mythos will weave through this narrative remains to be seen. But we do know we’ll be getting cameos from VTuber personalities, as well as a theme song by NIJISANJI talent Ryushen.

Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show premieres July 1.

Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse

Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse

There’s no shortage of isekaanime adapted from manga and light novels. But this summer, we’ll also be getting a dimension-hopping original anime! Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse hails from David Production and centers on delinquent Takeru as he’s transported to a mystical future world. Denji Heian-kyou is a futuristic spin on an ancient city, and the legendary Abe no Seimei is there as well. And it’s a good thing… because Takeru could use some spiritual assistance.

After living through his own death and the death of his (literal) dream girl Tsukimiya, Takeru realizes he has to train. With the help of Abe no Seimei, this delinquent is about to become an onmyoji and combat the dangerous oni attacking the world of the future.

Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse premieres July 3.

Turkey! Time to Strike

Turkey! Time to Strike

Eventually, every sport in existence will have an anime made about it. This summer, it’s bowling’s turn. Original anime series Turkey! Time to Strike is the first anime about the sport of bowling, and it hails from new Tatsunoko label Bakken Record. It focuses on five girls from a high school bowling club—and their brilliant captain who may well be holding herself back.

Why does Mai always follow a turkey (three strikes in a row) with a 7-10 split? Rina, the club’s one first-year member, thinks she knows: the captain is losing on purpose. If Mai doesn’t shape up, Rina is shipping out. How will the team fare? We’ll find out this summer!

Turkey! Time to Strike premieres July 8.
