One Piece Day Event Planned for July

one piece day

Get ready to celebrate “everything One Piece in one place,” because Bandai Namco Entertainment, Shueisha and Toei Animation have teamed up to bring the two-day One Piece Day event back for more this July. The physical event will be held at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center in Japan from July 21-22, but fans around the world will also be able to catch the festivities via a YouTube livestream.

In addition to a “cheering” screening of the One Piece Film Red anime film that allows for shouts and cheers from the crowd, the event will bring some of the anime’s cast members on stage. There will also be merchandise announcements and other activities, so stay tuned for more as we get closer to the big two-day affair.

While Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga launched on July 19, 1997, it was advertised as having launched on July 22, so The Japan Anniversary Association has recognized July 22 as One Piece Day since 2017.

The manga is available via VIZ Media, which describes the series like so:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary “One Piece,” said to be the greatest treasure in the world…
