One Piece Creator Eiichiro Oda and Chopper Himself Respond to Netflix’s Tony Tony Chopper Reveal

Have you had a chance to check out the video reveal of Tony Tony Chopper for Netflix’s live-action One Piece? Fans around the world are sharing their thoughts, and it seems as if it’s been mostly positive in Japan. You know who else spoke up? None other than Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece himself.

The franchise’s official Instagram shared this note:

“The key to Season 2 is, of course, our weird talking animal. After extensive trial and refinement by the entire team, the day has come to finally unveil him!! From his form and furs to his expressions and voice, and even lighting and gravity simulation — a world-class team brought their skills together in bringing Tony Tony Chopper to life, and now he’s ready to be introduced to the world!!”

It would only be natural that Oda is pleased with how Chopper came out, because his deal with Netflix is that the adaptation doesn’t go forward unless he likes it. And unlike many other Western live-action adaptations, this one is doing quite well with its audience.

And what does Chopper think? Well, even if he isn’t real, he has an official Instagram page, and that page shared an image of him viewing his own reveal.

The new season will be here sometime in 2026.

VIZ Media publishes the original One Piece manga, and gave this description for the first volume:

One Piece Plot

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary “One Piece,” said to be the greatest treasure in the world…
