New Super Mario Bros. Animated Film Announced

This weekend saw Mario Day arrive, appropriately enough, on March 10—Mar10, Mario; get it?—and Nintendo had some announcements to go along with it. Chief among them was the reveal of a new Super Mario Bros. animated film, serving as a followup to the smash hit CG-animated film that dominated the box office around the world in 2023.

The announcement came from Nintendo and animation studio Illumination, who produced the first film. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri will produce alongside Nintendo representative director and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The film will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel, with a premiere date penciled in for April 3, 2026.

Check out the announcement below.

Released in April 2023, the first Super Mario Bros. movie starred Chris Pratt as Mario, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed that one as well, with Matthew Fogel writing.
