Studio Ponoc—the production house behind films such as Mary and the Witch’s Flower and anthology film Modest Heroes—is finally getting ready to return with another feature. The Imaginary is on the way from director Yoshiyuki Momose, and the first trailer made its way online complete with English translation.

The cast has been revealed, as well, including Kokoro Terada as Rudger, Rio Suzuki as Amanda, Sakura Ando as Lizzie, Riisa Naka as Emily, Takayuki Yamada as Zinzan, Atsuko Takahata as Granny Downbeat and Issey Ogata as Mr. Bunting.

The Imaginary anime film was first planned for release in summer 2022 before being pushed back to winter 2023, then locking in plans for December 15 in Japan and 2024 in the rest of the world.

Here’s how Studio Ponoc describes it:

A boy no one can see, and the Imaginaries.

Meet Rudger, the boy created by the imagination of a girl who lost love.

They spend precious time together, running through a world of breathtaking imagination and a challenging reality.

One day that world of imagination is about to disappear with the arrival of a mysterious man seeking to destroy Rudger.
