New Legend of the Galactic Heroes Series Premieres April 3

New Legend of the Galactic Heroes Series Premieres April 3A new anime series based on the Legend of the Galactic Heroes novels by Yoshiki Tanaka is set to blast off April 3.

The series, which is evidently not a remake of the earlier anime adaptation, is directed by Shunsuke Tada (Kuroko’s Basketball) with script supervision from Noboru Takagi (Durarara!!). It’s being animated at Production I.G. Music will be provided by Hiroyuki Sawano and Sin Hashimoto.

Much like the plot of the novels, the release of the series is a bit convoluted. The first part, entitled Die Neue These Kaiko, is made up of 12 episodes, and will air on TV. The second part, Die Neue These Seiran, is also 12 episodes, but will be released theatrically in three chunks in 2019.

The original Legend of the Galactic Heroes anime adaptation, which spanned 110 episodes plus multiple films and spinoffs, is currently available for streaming on HIDIVE, who offer this succinct description:

War wages between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. With two new brilliant young leaders at the helm, anything can happen in this military space opera.
