Children’s series Oshiri Tantei, AKA Butt Detective, is heading back to the big screen in Japan today, March 20, so we have another look at the hero we all deserve. Eiga Oshiri Tantei Saraba Itoshiki Aibo (Oshiri) yo spins a yarn about the titular detective’s former partner, Daffodil, and you can see what kind of mystery is afoot in the fairly dramatic three-minute trailer below.
The Oshiri Tantei books come from author Troll, which has inspired various forms of anime adaptations since 2018. Eiga Oshiri Tantei Saraba Itoshiki Aibo (Oshiri) yo is the series’ fifth overall anime film and the second feature-length film. The original anime adaptation had Hiroki Shibata directing, with Natsuko Takashi on series composition at Toei Animation. The new film has Kenji Seto at the helm and features a screenplay by Jun Narita and Natsuko Takahashi.
