The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Kenji Kamiyama Film Opens April 2024

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Kenji Kamiyama Film Opens April 2024The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the animated film helmed by Kenji Kamiyama and set in the Lord of the Rings universe, now has a release date.

It’s set to hit theaters on April 12, 2024. That’s the word from Warner Bros Animation and New Line Cinema.

Alongside the announcement came a fresh bit of artwork from the film, showing the walls of Edoras being breached.

The film takes place before the Lord of the Rings novels and tells the story of Helm’s Deep, as well as the King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand.

As noted above, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is being directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who’s best known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ultraman, Eden of the East and Blade Runner: Black Lotus.

The film is being overseen by Sola Entertainment, produced by Joseph Chou (Blade Runner: Black Lotus) and written by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance).

Here’s what Warner Bros. Pictures COO Carolyn Blackwood and New Line Cinema President and CCO Richard Brener had to say about the production back in 2021:

All of us at New Line feel a deep affinity for the extraordinary world J.R.R. Tolkien created, so the opportunity to dive back into Middle-earth with the team at Warner Bros. Animation is a dream come true. Fans know Helm’s Deep as the stage for one of the greatest battles ever put to film and, with many of the same creative visionaries involved and the brilliant Kenji Kamiyama at the helm, we couldn’t be more excited to deliver a fresh vision of its history that will invite global audiences to experience the rich, complex saga of Middle-earth in a thrilling new way.
