Soichiro Yamamoto’s Teasing Master Takagi-san manga—also known as Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san—recently came to an end, but there are still more new pieces of media on the way. On top of spinoff manga and the previous TV anime adaptation, there’s now a live-action film on the way to Japanese cinemas on May 31, 2024.
This follows the announcement of a live-action TV drama, which will debut before the film in March 2024. The difference lies in the time period. The TV drama follows the story of the leads during junior high school, and the film will pick up 10 years after the events of the manga.
Mei Nagano plays Takagi, and Fumiya Takahashi plays Nishikata. The story finds Takagi returning to her old school as an educational intern, while Nishikata also now works at the school as a physical education teacher. You can see both leads at the top of the article.
The live-action Teasing Master Takagi-san movie has Rikiya Imaizumi (Chihiro-san) directing and writing,
Here’s what original creator Yamamoto had to say about the news:
“I am surprised and, at the same time, very happy that my manga became a live-action film and that we will be able to see ‘Takagi-san’ differently from both the manga and the anime. Along with you all, I am very excited to see what kind of ‘pictures’ Nagano-san, Takahashi-san, and the other actors, as well as director Imaizumi and the rest of the production team, will create in the beautiful and relaxing scenery of Shodoshima. I am looking forward to the release of the film.”
