fena: pirate princess

The anime Fena: Pirate Princess made its debut in America, becoming available on August 14 on Crunchyroll (subtitled) and Adult Swim (dubbed). But the anime won’t come out in Japan until October, and a Japanese-language version of the trailer has been released by the official Japanese website for the anime.

Looking at the Japanese cast, Asami Seto plays Fena Houtman, Ryōta Suzuki plays Yukimaru, Takahiro Sakurai plays Shitan, Aoi Yūki plays Karin, Gen Sato plays Enju, Ryota Ohsaka plays Kaede, Jun Oosuka plays Tsubaki, Shintarō Tanaka plays Makaba, Manabu Muraji plays Salman, and Hiroaki Hirata plays Otto.

Looking at the English cast, Brittany Cox plays Fena Houtman, Robb Moreira plays Yukimaru, Nicholas Corda plays Shitan, Anjali Kunapaneni plays Karin, Brandon Winckler plays Enju, Darrel Delfin plays Kaede, Alan Lee plays Tsubaki, Thomas E. Wynn plays Makaba, Frank Todaro plays Salman, and Doug Stone plays Otto.

Crunchyroll gave this description of the story:

“Fena Houtman remembers little about her childhood. Orphaned and raised as a servant in a brothel, her life changes when she escapes to an island of pirates where she discovers the truth behind her family. With Fena being the only one able to unlock her family’s secrets, and a formidable crew of female pirates on her tail, she must take her place as captain of her Samurai crew for a high seas adventure!”

The anime is being done at Production I.G, with Kazuto Nakazawa of Blood + helming it as director and creator of the original story. Writing the scripts has been tasked to Asako Kuboyama. Music is being composed by Yuki Kajiura of Demon Slayer and produced by FlyingDog. Its opening theme song “Umi to Shinju” (translated as “The Sea and Pearls”) is performed by JUNNA of The Ancient Magus’ Bride.

Have you had a chance to check it out on either Adult Swim or Crunchyroll?
