Japan Box Office Weekend Takes 73% Dip from Last Year’s

Big events aren’t the only outings feeling the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The film market is also getting hit hard, and you can see some of the results in the latest box office report from Japan.

Compared to last year at the same time, this past weekend’s box office gross was down a staggering 73 percent. No new anime films were released, and big potential hits like Doraemon: Nobita’s New Dinosaur and PreCure Miracle Leap: A Wonderful Day with Everyone have been postponed due to the virus.

Here’s the full box office for the weekend of March 14-15:

 6 (new). Kizoku Kourin: PRINCE OF LEGEND – 60 million yen
 7 (5). Inunakimura – 1.22 billion yen
 8 (6). SHIROBAKO Movie – 270 million yen
 9 (9). Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku – 1.25 billion yen
 10 (8). Judy – 100 million yen
