Hideaki Anno, ONE OK ROCK Star in Honda Civic Commercial

Zoom zoom.

Taking a star turn in a new commercial for the Honda Civic is none other than Hideaki Anno, director of Evangelion and Shin Godzilla, who stars alongside band ONE OK ROCK.

This isn’t actually the first commercial work Anno has done: he also starred in an ad for Nissan about ten years ago. He’s also made cameo appearances in films like Taste of Tea and Funky Forest by Redline producer and animator Katsuhito Ishii, who said in an interview with Midnight Eye that Anno is “a really good actor.”

Anno’s biggest star turn is, of course, as the voice of Jiro Horikoshi in The Wind Rises.

Rockers ONE OK ROCK may be best known to anime and manga fans for the theme songs they wrote for the live-action Rurouni Kenshin films and the CGI Captain Harlock.

Nice work, Anno – now get back to Evangelion 4!
