My Hero Academia Heroes: Rising Tops First Movie’s Box Office

It took around nine weeks, but the new My Hero Academia anime film has finally topped its predecessor. With the latest weekend box office numbers in from Japan, My Hero Academia THE MOVIE Heroes: Rising is now sitting at 1.73 billion yen, which puts it 100 million yen over the domestic total of the first film.

HEROES: RISING can thank a combination of positive word of mouth and the recent 4DX/MX4D screenings that kicked off in late January. Since it opened in December, the overall numbers make it 2019’s seventh top grossing anime film.

Next up for the movie is a theatrical engagement in the west starting on February 26. Here’s a new dubbed trailer:
