Running from 2023 to 2026, the sprawling Gintama 20th Anniversary Project celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hideaki Sorachi’s manga serialization and the 20th anniversary of the TV anime broadcast debut. As part of the celebration, re-edited versions of the anime’s Thorny arc (AKA Baragaki Arc) episodes will head to theaters with extra footage in Japan this November.

The limited three-week engagement begins on November 10, 2023, and those who attend will get a bonus item as well as the opportunity to purchase merchandise featuring a new illustration.

Check out the main visual of Toshiro Hijikata, whose past plays a big role in the arc:

Gintama’s Thorny Arc covers chapters 365-370 of the manga and episodes 244-247 of the anime adaptation.

Crunchyroll streams the Gintama anime and describes it:

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
