The long-awaited final volume of Land of the Lustrous, the fantasy manga from Haruko Ichikawa, is set for release in Japan this month. To celebrate, publisher Kodansha has unveiled some giant illustrations that will grace Japan’s Shibuya Station, Osaka-Umeda Station and Kodansha’s office in Tokyo.
The exact breakdown goes like this:
Shibuya Station: November 18-24, 12 illustrations
Osaka-Umeda Station: November 18-24, 8 illustrations
Kodansha office: November 21-December 6, 2 illustrations
Gotta see em all!
In addition, selected bookstores in Japan will give out exclusive cards illustrated by Ichikawa to those who purchase the final volume.
The 13th and final volume comes two years after volume 12 due to a hiatus on the part of Ichikawa from October 2023 to February 2024. The manga ended this April. It inspired a 12-episode series by studio Orange in 2017.
Here’s how Kodansha Comics describes the first volume of Land of the Lustrous:
In a world inhabited by crystalline lifeforms called The Lustrous, every unique gem must fight for their way of life against the threat of lunarians who would turn them into decorations. Phosphophyllite, the most fragile and brittle of gems, longs to join the battle. When Phos is instead assigned to complete a natural history of their world, it sounds like a dull and pointless task. But this new job brings Phos into contact with Cinnabar, a gem forced to live in isolation. Can Phos’s seemingly mundane assignment lead both Phos and Cinnabar to the fulfillment they desire?
