Ghibli Museum Adds Full-Size Catbus For Adults

If you’ve ever been to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, you’ve no doubt seen kids playing around in a life-size version of the Catbus from the studio’s classic My Neighbor Totoro.

You may also have felt a pang of jealously, knowing that if only you were still two feet tall, you too could get on the magic bus.

Well, feel jealous no longer: the Ghibli Museum is prepping a new exhibition called Ride the Catbus to the Ghibli Woods, which will feature a Catbus for adults.

The exhibition, which opens July 17, will also refresh some of the Ghibli Museum’s classic exhibits, some of which, while eternally charming, are also about 15 years old.

Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary Ghibli director who retired from feature filmmaking, is prepping a new CG short for the museum called Boro the Caterpillar, which Miyazaki estimates will be completed sometime in 2018.
