First Sailor Moon Eternal Movie Debuts in 9th Place

The Japanese box office has been nothing but Demon Slayer lately—at least until Gintama THE FINAL took the top spot throne!—but now the first Sailor Moon Eternal movie is finally out in the wild. The film was released in 127 theaters on January 8, and after the dust settled on its opening weekend it managed to secure a ninth place spot in the box office top 10.

At the time of this writing, Eternal‘s first-weekend box office gross has yet to be reported. As far as whether or not people enjoyed it, the Sailor Moon Eternal movie placed sixth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking, netting an approval of 3.46 with 242 reviews.

In other numbers, Gintama THE FINAL‘s opening weekend had it pulling in ¥287,493,500 (about $2.76 million) across 197 theaters and 204,335 admissions on Saturday and Sunday, while also placing first in the satisfaction ranking at 4.06 and 1,267 reviews. It then went on to make a total of ¥531,350,320 ($5.1 million) in its first four days.

Meanwhile, the second-place Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – THE MOVIE: Mugen Train is now at ¥35.7 billion ($343 million) after its 13th weekend.
