EVANGELION STORE Data Breach Compromises Over 17,000 Credit Cards

The online EVANGELION STORE ran into some major issues recently, with the site announcing a data breach that led to a ton of compromised information. Between June 8, 2020 and June 30, 2021, identifiable information was leaked, including passwords and 17,828 credit card numbers.

The store removed the ability to pay by card as soon as credit card companies alerted it to the breach on July 12, 2021. At the time of this writing, the EVANGELION STORE is offline for an indefinite period.

According to the announcement from Groundworks, which runs the store, the breach was “due to a vulnerability in part of the EVANGELION STORE system operated by our company.” A closer look at the personal information leaked reveals that it specifically includes cardholder names, credit card numbers, expiration dates, security codes, and logins (email addresses) and passwords for the online store itself.

Those who have been affected will be contacted directly by the EVANGELION STORE about the next steps to be taken. Groundworks is working with credit card companies to ensure new cards are issued, and hopefully those who used the store between that lengthy period of vulnerability have already changed their passwords there and anywhere else the same sequence might be used.

Other Evangelion online shops like Buyee and the Yahoo! store were not impacted by this breach.
