Twenty-three previous movies were released in the Detective Conan franchise, but Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet’s opening weekend shows there’s still plenty of interest. The franchise’s twenty-fourth movie nabbed the number one spot at the Japanese box office, pushing Evangelion out of the way.
All told, 1,533,054 tickets were bought in Japan, raking in about $20.5 million.
The movie also did well in China, where it earned $16.8 million.
Meanwhile, Evangelion fell to number two, the live-action Monster Hunter movie moved from third to fourth place, and Demon Slayer dropped to number five. The third Girls und Panzer das Finale movie took the eighth spot.
