Comiket Will Be Back Next Year with Some Major Changes

COVID-19 may have thrown off Japan’s major doujinshi convention Comiket this year, but the people putting on the con are already making plans for next year.

According to SoraNews24, the next Comiket is scheduled for May 2-5, 2021, and it’s supposed to be a live event. However, there will be some major changes. Along with requiring masks for all people, this Comiket will be much smaller. While daily crowds could normally swell into the hundreds of thousands, this next one is aiming for tens of thousands.

So how do you decide who gets to go and who has to stay home? Well, it sounds as if Comiket is probably doing a lottery system to decide who can attend. And people attending are also asked nicely to use the COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA) contact tracing app.

Plans could change as we get closer to the date.
