BERSERK: The Black Swordsman Animated Fan Series Showcased in Concept Trailer

berserk: the black swordsman

When Berserk fans aren’t getting the adaptations they want, they go to work themselves. That’s exactly what Studio Eclypse has done with BERSERK: The Black Swordsman, an upcoming fan-made animated series that has its first episode penciled in for a 2025 launch.

As the title suggests, the series aims to cover the Black Swordsman Arc of Kentaro Miura’s manga, and from the looks of it they’ve been going all out during production. Alex Gutierrez directs and produces, with character designs credited to Kevin Adair and Yazujiro Kurosawa.

See how it’s shaping up in the trailer below, featuring Japanese voice acting and English subtitles.

The 1997 anime adaptation recently made its way to Blu-ray through Discotek Media. Dark Horse publishes the Berserk manga by late creator Kentaro Miura, describing it like so:

His name is Guts, the Black Swordsman, a feared warrior spoken of only in whispers. Bearer of a gigantic sword, an iron hand, and the scars of countless battles and tortures, his flesh is also indelibly marked with The Brand, an unholy symbol that draws the forces of darkness to him and dooms him as their sacrifice. But Guts won’t take his fate lying down; he’ll cut a crimson swath of carnage through the ranks of the damned — and anyone else foolish enough to oppose him! Accompanied by Puck the Elf, more an annoyance than a companion, Guts relentlessly follows a dark, bloodstained path that leads only to death…or vengeance. Created by Kentaro Miura, Berserk is manga mayhem to the extreme — violent, horrifying, and mercilessly funny — and the wellspring for the internationally popular anime series. Not for the squeamish or the easily offended, Berserk asks for no quarter — and offers none!
