Last week, we learned that the popular fantasy light novel series 86 would be getting the anime treatment.
Now we’ve got many more details, including who’s making the series, who’s in it, and what it’s going to look like.
86 will be helmed by Toshimasa Ishii, who’s making his debut as a series director. He’s directed episodes of series like Space Brothers and Erased. Meanwhile, series composition will be handled by Toshiya Ono (The Promised Neverland) and character designs will be done by Tetsuya Kawakami (Interviews with Monster Girls).
The series will be animated at A-1 Pictures, and will star Shoya Chiba as Shinei Nozen and Ikumi Hasegawa as Vladilena Mirize.

Yen Press is releasing the 86 light novels in English. Here’s their description of the story:
The Republic of San Magnolia has been attacked by its neighbor, the Empire. Outside the 85 districts of the Republic there is the ‘non-existent 86th district,’ where young men and women continue to fight. Sheen directs the actions of young suicide bombers, while Lena is a “curator” who commands a detachment from a remote rear. The story of the tragic struggle between these two begins!
