Next 86 Light Novel Volume Delayed Due to Author’s Poor Health

86 eighty-six

The next volume in the 86 EIGHTY-SIX light novel series was originally set to launch this December, but its release has been hit with a delay due to author Asato Asato’s poor health. 86 ―Eighty Six― Ep.11― Dies Passionis ― will now launch in Japan sometime in February 2022.

The 86 EIGHTY-SIX light novel series first launched as part of Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko imprint back in April 2017, and features Shirabi (The Ryuo’s Work is Never Done!) handling illustrations, while I-IV (Re:CREATORS) works on mechanical design. Yen Press publishes the series in English and sums it up like so:

The San Magnolia Republic has long been under attack by unmanned weapons from the neighboring Empire. Against this onslaught, the Republic has also deployed similar weapons, narrowly avoiding great loss of life and impending disaster-or at least that’s how it seemed.

The truth is that it has never been possible to have no casualties. Young men and women drawn from the Republic’s supposedly non-existent 86th district are organized into the “86 unit” and then ordered to pilot the “unmanned weapons” before heading to battle.

You can also catch the ongoing anime adaptation as it streams each week on Crunchyroll.
