In October, return plans were penciled in for Yukito Kishiro’s Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle manga, which was supposed to come back to Kodansha’s Evening magazine in spring 2023. Now those plans have been pushed back a bit, with the official Twitter account confirming that the manga is extending its hiatus to this summer.
Kishiro’s current hiatus started in October, following a two-month break from June to August 2021. Since Evening magazine has ceased publication, the Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle manga will move to Kodansha’s Comic Days app.
Kishiro originally launched the latest entry in the long-running Battle Angel Alita saga in April 2014, and hit nine collected volumes in Japan back in November. Meanwhile, Kodansha USA has eight volumes out in English as of July 2022.
Here’s how Kodansha describes the series:
The cyber-martial arts saga that has spanned a solar system and over two decades in print returns, with creator Yukito Kishiro’s new sequel that reveals the true story of Alita’s childhood on Mars, and the mind-bending adventures that still await her…For centuries, war has raged on the dusty, red surface of Mars. This apocalyptic crucible will produce the solar system’s most fearsome warrior, Alita. But for now that warrior is just a little girl named Yoko. The future and past of the battle angel fan out across the reaches of space in the final chapter of one of the greatest sci-fi epics of all time!
