The ballet manga Dance Dance Danseur by George Asakura is getting an anime adaptation. Ahead of the April 8 premiere, a trailer has been released. It lets us know that Kouki Uchiyama has been cast as Ruō Mori and Kaede Hondo has been cast as Miyako Godai. It had already been revealed that Daiki Yamashita has been cast to play the lead, Junpei Murao.
The anime is being made at none other than MAPPA, with Munehisa Sakai of Zombie Land Saga working as the director. The person in charge of series scripts is Yoshimi Narita, who previously worked on My Senpai Is Annoying and Our love has always been 10 centimeters apart. Character design goes to Hitomi Hasegawa of Twittering Birds Never Fly: The Clouds Gather. The music is being composed by MICHIRU.
The opening theme song is “Narihibiku Kagiri” (translated as “As Long as it Reverberates”), which is performed by YUKI. Meanwhile, the ending theme song “Kaze, Hana” (translated as “Wind, Flower”) is performed by Hitorie.
Because of the ballet theme, there are also special jobs in this anime to make it as accurate as possible. There is a dance choreographer (Naoya Homan), a ballet technical director (Hajime Ohtani), plus ballet animation directors (Tsuyoshi Kuwahara and Atsushi Ogasawara).
The manga debuted in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits seven years ago, and is still being published. It has not yet been licensed in America. The story follows Junpei Murao, who has long been interested in ballet, but feels it’s not something he ought to do. Instead, he signs himself up for Jeet Kune Do. But then he meets Miyako Godai, and it turns out that her mom has a ballet studio. So Miyako asks Junpei to do to ballet with her, and now we have a ballet story worthy of an anime.
