MAPPA is at it again with another anime production, this time adapting George Asakura’s Dance Dance Danseur manga, which is all about men’s ballet. The award-winning manga has been running in the pages of Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits since 2015, and the anime adaptation by MAPPA is set to premiere sometime in 2022.
Munehisa Sakai (ZOMBIE LAND SAGA) has been announced as director for the series, with Yoshimi Narita (Pretty Cure Splash Star) on series composition and Hitomi Hasegawa (assistant character designer on Kimi ni Todoke – From Me to You) handling character designs. You can see the first teaser visual below.
The story follows junior high student Junpei Murao, who grew up fascinated by ballet but eventually gave up on it after the death of his father. While he hides his feelings for ballet while growing popular at school and taking on martial arts, he ends up leaping back into the world of dance and striving to become a professional after the arrival of a beautiful new transfer student, Miyako Godai, whose mother runs a ballet studio.
