Studio MAPPA Appoints New Corporate Officers

Studio MAPPA Appoints New Corporate OfficersMAPPA, the studio behind productions like Chainsaw ManJujutsu Kaisen and the currently airing Lazarus, has just added two new corporate officers to its organization.

The first is Yuichi Fukushima, who will join MAPPA as a non-executive director, or outside director (shagaitorishimariyaku). Fukushima is known as an executive vice-president of studio CloverWorks and a representative director at JOEN, the company founded by CloverWorks, Wit Studio, Shueisha and Aniplex.

A statement by Fukushima reads:

My name is Yuichi Fukushima and I have been appointed as a non-executive director. I know some of you may be thinking, “What does that mean?” Well, I’m thinking the same thing! That said, I am very honored to have the opportunity to participate, learn, and experience an animation studio that is leading the way in various innovative initiatives, as well as in personnel matters. Although mine is a third-party perspective, I will strive to contribute to the development of the company and the industry, and I look forward to working with you!

Meanwhile, MAPPA has appointed Motoi Okuno as operating officer (shikkoyakuin). Okuno joined MAPPA in 2017 and worked on the CG animation of Chainsaw Man and Attack on Titan: The Final Season. Okuno’s statement reads:

As a person deeply involved in 3DCG production, I will strive to convey the voices of the frontline to the management and at the same time be a bridge to convey our management philosophy and aspirations to the frontline.

What will this mean for operations at MAPPA? Does it have anything to do with the reportedly less-than-ideal conditions at the studio? We may find out in the coming months.
