Freelance Animator Makes Allegations Against MAPPA Working Conditions

Funimation, Crunchyroll Stream Attack on Titan The Final Season This Fall

A freelance animator who goes by Mushiyo on Twitter said that they used to work for MAPPA, and that the conditions there were so bad that they left. Anime News Network caught the story and translated the tweets, but since then Mishiyo has made their Twitter page private.

Mushiyo alleges that while they worked on the new season of Attack on Titan, MAPPA’s working conditions were like a “factory.” They had to stay up all night fixing drawings rather than doing actual animation. They said that the company did not properly train its employees and they were, in Mushiyo’s opinion, working on too many different anime titles at once.

“As far as I can tell, about 80% of the employees had similar complaints at the time,” Mushiyo wrote.

While Anime News Network trusted the source enough to publish the article, it’s hard to find out more details, and so far there is no statement from MAPPA in response to this.
