Anime Tourism Event Hosts Tokyo Governor Koike, Cosplayer Enako as SAO’s Asuna

Anime Tourism Event Hosts Tokyo Governor Koike, Cosplayer Enako as SAO’s AsunaThis past weekend, an anime tourism event was held in otaku mecca Akihabara, and some special guests were on hand to join in the fun.

One of those guests was Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike, who is a self-professed fan of anime and cosplay. She was there to help promote Tokyo Anime Tourism 2018, a smartphone app created to, well, promote Tokyo anime tourism.

The app, which features characters from Sword Art Online, uses AR for a “digital stamp rally,” in which users visit locations throughout the city (12 in total) and gain points, which they can then exchange for real merchandise like hand towels and buttons.

Also on hand was professional cosplayer Enako, who was dressed up as Sword Art Online’s Asuna. Despite the cold weather (about 37 Fahrenheit), Enako was in good spirits (and probably even better ones once someone lent her a coat).

The Anime Tokyo Tourism 2018 app is available on iOS and Android.
