Actor Ryo Yoshizawa, who plays Rody Soul in My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes’ Mission and has been in live-action versions of Bleach, Gintama, and Tokyo Revengers, was recently hired for an ad for 3.5-percent Super Dry Dry Crystal beer. The drink has a low alcohol content, and Asahi Breweries, the company behind the beer, wanted to highlight this aspect. CBS reported that Yoshizawa was meant to be a “wholesome face” for the beverage.
And though Asahi Breweries sells beer, it didn’t like the image of Yoshizawa getting drunk in real life. On December 30, after getting intoxicated, he ended up walking into the apartment room next to his. According to Yoshizawa, it was an accident.
“I’ve lost my memories. I think I just went in without asking, because I wanted to use the bathroom,” he’s reported as saying.
A spokesperson for Asahi Group Holdings said that because of this incident, they won’t be working with Yoshizawa anymore. The spokesperson said, “As an alcohol beverage company, we consider his actions unacceptable. We will no longer use him in our future advertisements.”
Yoshikawa’s agency, Amuse, said that the actor apologized to the neighbor for the intrusion. The agency further put out this public statement: “We would like to sincerely apologize to [Yoshizawa’s] fans and related parties for the concern and inconvenience we have caused.”
The actor has approximately 80 credits to his name, and a fashion magazine once said that he has a “national treasure-class handsomeness.”
My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes’ Mission played in American theaters, where it took second place at the box office on opening weekend.
Funimation Films gave this description for it:
