38 Japanese anime and manga titles have been blacklisted from distribution in China, including popular series such as Attack on Titan, Death Note, Highschool of the Dead, and more. The Chinese Ministry of Culture announced the list on Monday, with Senior Ministry official Liu Qiang stating that it is “the result of evaluations by investigators, reviews by the ministry and the opinions of experts. It aims to guide websites in the proper review and importation of comics and animations.”
According to Liu, more titles will be added to the list in the future. Here’s the current lineup of blacklisted titles:

China starting blacklisting titles on April 1 as part of new regulations requiring video websites to approve foreign media prior to streaming. Examples of requirements for blacklisting include titles with “scenes of violence, pornography, terrorism, and crimes against public morality.” 29 Chinese websites have been fined and given warnings thus far, with failure to comply putting their business licenses at risk. Eight websites have been shut down for hosting content without going through the approvals and licensing process.
