The Wild Faery Company’s “Attack on Titan – Beyond the Walls World Tour” is a thrilling tour de force. It takes a live orchestra, live singers, and has them bring the Attack on Titan soundtrack to life as the anime plays on a massive screen in the background.
I was lucky enough to attend the Chicago concert on May 8, and there are still upcoming concerts in Minneapolis, Seattle, Orlando and New York City. The tour will also be traveling through Europe, Asia and Australia.
The concert starts with “ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn” and the opening shot of Attack on Titan, with the geese flying through the air. The footage is then edited to show the Titan attack that comes shortly afterward, with the most dramatic moments. For whatever the music, the animation that goes with it is put together to complement it viscerally.
Attack on Titan has some pretty epic music, and to experience it live with an orchestra is a whole new feeling. Watching scenes from The Rumbling or the Beast Titan throwing boulders is different when you can feel the music’s vibrations in your core like the footfalls of real Titans. But it’s more than that. The music combined with the animation is a very emotional, immersive experience, especially if these are characters you’ve really come to care about.
Songs used in the concert include “K2,” “Before Lights Out,” “Vogel im Käfig,” “Footsteps of Doom,” “The Other Side of the Sea,” “Guilty Hero,” “The Fall of Marley” and more.
The concert ended with two standing ovations and calls for more. Many people were dressed up for the event — ranging from Survey Corps cloaks to full-on cosplay, with Mikasa seeming like the most popular character to cosplay as. The concert comes with its own exclusive merchandise, including CDs, vinyl, T-shirts, and a program book that has comments and interviews with the composers and producers, pages dedicated to the main group of characters, and information on some of the talented people behind the concert tour.

Anime concerts like these have been popular in Japan, and it’s great to see “Attack on Titan – Beyond the Walls World Tour” getting an international tour.
