Commercial flights always begin with safety instructions, such as buckling your seatbelts and what to do in an emergency. Now the Japanese airline company All Nippon Airways (a.k.a. ANA) has teamed up with The Pokémon Company to offer an entertaining Pokémon-themed safety video.
This is to coincide with the business the two companies already have going on. Beginning today, August 15, ANA is offering Pikachu Jet NH and the Eevee Jet NH flights.
The safety video is in both Japanese and English, with a person offering sign language in the bottom right corner. In the video, various Pokémon are on an airplane and help show what to do or not do. For instance, Machamp helps demonstrate how to put a shoulder belt on and off, Jigglypuff frowns on smoking in the plane’s cabin, and Pikachu and Pichu show where to find a life vest in case of an emergency. There’s also a little anime segment about evacuation.
ANA made the point that this video is for people of all ages. In other words, kids who might normally tune out the important information are more likely to pay attention if they see Pikachu and pals!
As you might imagine, anyone who rides on these planes also has opportunities for exclusive goodies related to the franchise. That alone would get some people interested in choosing these flights over others.
As an extra bonus, there is also this ANA Disembarkation Video featuring Pokémon.
Flying Pokémon
While this is the first time Pokémon has been involved with flight safety, it’s not the first time they’ve been involved with airplanes. In 2021, for example, Skymark Airlines began offering its Pikachu Jet, which is a segment of the Flying Pikachu tourism project. And last year Solaseed Air was all about its Exeggutor Jet, which was basically an update of an earlier Exeggutor plane. One way or another, these pocket monsters are taking to the skies.
