One Piece Film: Red Goes Beyond the 12 Billion Yen Mark in Japan’s Box Office

one piece film: red

It’s been almost one month since the premiere of One Piece Film: Red, and the feature continues to delight audiences throughout Japan. It was just a few days ago that we posted about the movie knocking Evangelion out of the all-time anime film top 10 and being the second-fastest film to hit 11 billion yen, and now it’s added another billion to that total.

This means it’s also the second-fastest film to hit 12 billion yen, once again putting it behind the monster hit known as Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train. As of September 1, the film’s theatrical total is at the equivalent of US$87.26 million, positioning it comfortably as the 26th highest-grossing movie of all time in Japan, right behind Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises. It even managed to surpass Top Gun Maverick in Japan!

Next up for the movie is an international release from Crunchyroll, which describes the feature like so:

Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans—excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance—the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.
