Last week, One Piece author Eiichiro Oda sent a special original illustration to French President Emmanuel Macron, with a note in French dedicating it to Macron and all the One Piece fans in France.
One Piece is the world’s bestselling manga, and France has a sizeable otaku population that has bought 25 million copies of the series. In fact, 8.3% of all manga sold in France are One Piece volumes. Macron was delighted by the gift and shared it on Twitter in the midst of his tweets about politics, where he said this is for “passionate” fans and thanked Oda bilingually by using both French and Japanese.
Passionnés de One Piece, je partage avec vous ce dessin original offert par son auteur. Merci ありがとうございます @Eiichiro_Staff ! pic.twitter.com/0n5sAaky7j
