AKB48’s Yuki Kashiwagi is going to have surgery for syringomyelia. According to the Mayo Clinic, this “is the development of a fluid-filled cyst (syrinx) within your spinal cord. Over time, the cyst can enlarge, damaging your spinal cord and causing pain, weakness and stiffness, among other symptoms.”
She’s still doing a bit of light work before her surgery, as approved by her doctor. Her June stage performances have been called off, and her July performances will be moved to a later date.
“I’ll concentrate on my treatment first, then I want to come back better than ever,” Kashiwagi told her fans on Twitter. “I’ll be very encouraged if you could send warm wishes to me from your heart, even if just a little.”
Here’s to her successful surgery and safe recovery!
