With COVID-19 still a major issue, many anime conventions are struggling. Some are choosing to cancel their events this year, while others are trying virtual cons. FanimeCon, an anime convention taking place in San Jose, California with more than 30,000 attendants in the past, has decided to go the virtual route this year.
“This will be unlike any convention that we have planned before,” they explained on their website. “We are tailoring many of our traditionally in-person events to fit a virtual audience and will share more details as this develops.”
They continued, “Your ticket to FanimeCon 2021 will allow you access to the virtual events this year. If you have a ticket rolled over from FanimeCon 2020 it will be valid for FanimeCon 2021 and FanimeCon 2022. At the current moment, we are unsure when FanimeCon 2021 registration will be available, but we will follow up as information is finalized.”
They assured attendees that any hotel rooms already booked for the event will be cancelled without penalty as long as they were obtained through FanimeCon.
“While we are sad that we will not be able to celebrate FanimeCon in person again this year, we are looking forward to bringing the Con directly to you. In the meantime, we hope you and your families stay safe and healthy!” they said.
