Everyone’s excited about that other box office hit, but let’s not forget Violet Evergarden: The Movie. The film, a sequel to the Kyoto Animation series, has been going strong since its debut back in October.
Oricon reports that Violet Evergarden: The Movie has officially surpassed 2 billion yen after 11 weeks in theaters. It can be hard to get perspective, because Demon Slayer has made almost 30 billion. But 2 billion yen is, like, really good!
In fact, this makes Violet Evergarden only the second KyoAni film to make 2 billion, the first being A Silent Voice.
2 billion yen is just over $19 million at the present exchange rate.
The film is set to re-expand back into more theaters starting December 11, so the earnings aren’t over yet, either.
Congratulations to Kyoto Animation, who have spent the last year-plus recovering from tragedy to deliver a critically and financially successful film.
