The World Ends With You the Animation Launches Fresh Trailer

Back in June, we learned the popular Nintendo DS RPG The World Ends With You was getting an anime adaptation. Now we’ve got a fresh look at that adaptation courtesy a new trailer.

The 90-second trailer previews the anime’s look, premise and Shibuya setting.

As we learned in July, the anime is set to kick off in 2021. Here’s who’s making it:

Director: Kazuya Ichikawa (Monster Strike the Animation)
Scripts: Midori Goto (Attack on Titan: Junior High)
Character designs: Tetsuya Nomura (Final Fantasy) and Gen Kobayashi (Schoolgirl Strikers)
Music: Takeharu Ishimoto (The World Ends With You game)
Production: Domerica and Shin-Ei Animation

Funimation will stream the series as it airs.

Here’s a synopsis of the original The World Ends With You game:

Race through the streets of Shibuya and survive the seven-day Reapers’ Game!

Neku awakens in the middle of Shibuya’s bustling Scramble Crossing with no memory of how he got there. Little does he know he’s been transported to an alternate plane of existence known as the Underground (UG). Now an unwilling participant in the mysterious “Reapers’ Game,” Neku must partner up with a girl named Shiki in order to survive. Together, they complete missions and defeat monsters known as “Noise” as they gradually uncover the true nature of this twisted Game.

“There’s only one way to stay alive in Shibuya: trust your partner.”

Will they survive the Reapers’ Game?
