Case File nº221: Kabukicho Gets Six-Part OVA This August

Case File nº221: Kabukicho Gets Six-Part OVA This AugustI’ll never understand why or how a simple, catchy title like Kabukicho Sherlock became the unwieldy Case File nº221: Kabukicho. I mean, c’mon!

Anyway: whatever you prefer to call the series of modern-day, Japan-set Sherlock Holmes adventures, there’s more of it on the way. Namely, in the form of a six-part OVA headed for home video in Japan this August.

The entire disc will run 25 minutes, meaning these episodes are definitively shorts, but hey, we’ll take more Sherlock (ahem, Case File nº221: Kabukicho) where we can take it.

The first episode of the OVAs centers around Moriarty’s origin story.

The disc will also contain the series’ original pilot film and audio commentary by the cast. It hits Japanese retailers August 26.

For anyone who didn’t catch the series when it aired, here’s the official description:

The East Side of Shinjuku Ward … The neon-lit Kabukicho district stretches across the center of this chaotic city. Where light shines, there are also deep shadows. Yet even deep in this darkness where evildoers lurk, the light of a detective tenement shines. The tenement run by Mrs. Hudson has seven peculiar, shady individuals.

The curtains has risen on this stage on the night when a bizarre murder by Jack the Ripper has occurred. Is this suspense? No, comedy? An indistinguishable drama is about to begin….
