Masks off to the promotional staff for the live-action Tokyo Ghoul film, which premieres July 29 in Japan, who are doing some impressive outreach to international fans of the franchise.
This weekend, they released an English-language poster for the film and announced a worldwide live stream of the film’s launch event June 2.
The tagline for the English-language poster reads “Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain” and lists the cast, headlined by Masataka Kubota, best known in the west for his turn as Light Yagami in the TV version of Death Note.
The live stream event will including Kubota, director Kentaro Hagiwara and a “special screening of a clip that has never yet been public.”
The event will also include a Q&A session with internet viewers, who can submit questions via live chat.
Translator Don Brown, who did the English subtitles for Tokyo Ghoul, described it as “a rare manga-based SFX action movie that doesn’t suck” and compared it to I Am a Hero, a film we dug. Good news for anxious Ghoul fans, who should make sure to tune in to Youtube June 2.
