According to a report on Mashable, we have a new cast member to look forward to in director Adam Wingard’s Netflix-bound Death Note movie. This one is particularly good casting, with Willem Dafoe set to voice the Shinigami we all know and love, Ryuk.
Dafoe joins previously announced cast members Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi, and Shea Whigham. He’s currently filming Justice League, in which he plays the Atlantean Nuidis Vulko.
Viz Media published Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba’s original Death Note manga in North America. Here’s how they describe it:
Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects—and he’s bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But will Light succeed in his noble goal, or will the Death Note turn him into the very thing he fights against?
Death Note is currently set to premiere on Netflix in 2017.
