The ongoing CG anime series isn’t the only Ultraman project in the works at Netflix. Lest we forget, the streaming service previously announced plans for a 3DCG film, and now the co-production with Tsubaraya Productions has locked in a release window for sometime in 2024.
The Ultraman 3DCG film was first announced back in 2021, with Shannon Tindle directing, John Aoshima co-directing and Shannon Tindle and Marc Haimes handling the script. In addition to Tsuburaya, the film has Netflix teaming up with Industrial Light and Magic for animation production.
Here’s the synopsis:
The film will follow Ken Sato, a superstar baseball player who returns to Japan to become the latest hero to carry the mantle of Ultraman. His plans go awry, however, when he is compelled to raise a newborn kaiju monster — the offspring of his greatest enemy — as his own child. Sato will also have to contend with his relationship with his estranged father and the schemes of the Kaiju Defense Force.
