Trumpeter For Ghibli, One Piece, and Gundam Has Passed Away

Trumpeter Susumu Kazuhara, who sometimes used the stage name Shin Kazuhara, has passed away at age 74. A cause of death was not given.

If you’ve seen the movie Laputa: Castle in the Sky, the trumpet music done by character Pazu was performed by Kazuhara. Kazuhara’s trumpet playing can additionally be heard in My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Porco Rosso.

He wasn’t just in Studio Ghibli films, though. His trumpet playing was involved in each and every Lupin III show and movie. He performed in One Piece’s “We Are!” theme song and Mobile Suit Gundam’s “Sassō-taru Char” (“Dashing Char”) solo. It’s no surprise he was also involved in the “Samba de Loves You” song from the musically themed Sound! Euphonium The Movie – Our Promise: A Brand New Day.

This video shared by a fan in Japan lets us listen to Kazuhara’s talents.
