the summer hikaru died

Mokumokuren’s The Summer Hikaru Died manga is officially getting an anime adaptation. The author made the announcement on social media, and while there’s no word on the format or any of the staff, you can see Mokumokuren’s celebratory illustration below.

The Summer Hikaru Died manga launched on Kadokawa’s Young Ace Up website back in August 2021, and has so far been collected in four volumes. The manga was recently nominated for an Eisner Award.

Yen Press publishes The Summer Hikaru Died in English and sums up the story:

Two boys lived in a village: Yoshiki and Hikaru. The two did everything together…until the day Hikaru was encompassed by a mysterious light. That was when everything changed—Hikaru most of all. Yoshiki still wishes from the bottom of his heart to always stay by his side…but is there even a Hikaru left to be with?
