We’ve officially got a concrete date for the debut of The Summer Hikaru Died, the upcoming anime adapting the manga of the same name by Mokumokuren. The series will premiere on July 5 at 24:55 JST (so effectively July 6), and Vaundy will perform the opening song, “Saikai.”

Ahead of that, an advance screening is planned for TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku in Tokyo on June 29 with cast members and the director in attendance.

There are also two new cast additions in Yoshiki Nakajima as Yuta Maki and Shion Wakayama as Yuki Tadokoro. You can see their respective visuals:

The anime adaptation was first announced back in May 2024. Ryohei Takeshita (Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night) directs and writes series composition, with Yuichi Takahashi as character designer and chief animation director for the CygamesPictures production.

The Summer Hikaru Died manga launched on Kadokawa’s Young Ace Up website back in August 2021. Yen Press publishes The Summer Hikaru Died in English and sums up the story:

Two boys lived in a village: Yoshiki and Hikaru. The two did everything together…until the day Hikaru was encompassed by a mysterious light. That was when everything changed—Hikaru most of all. Yoshiki still wishes from the bottom of his heart to always stay by his side…but is there even a Hikaru left to be with?
