The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 Release Date Revealed

The debut of the second season of The Rising of the Shield Hero anime is less than a month away! It had previously been revealed that the season would debut in April, but just now we’ve finally been able to pin down a date. The season will come out starting on April 6.

The second season is being made at Kinema Citrus and DR MOVIE, with Masato Jinbo of Chaos;Child working as the director. Takao Abo had been the director for the first season. Kevin Penkin is back to compose the music, and other people reprising their roles include Keigo Koyanagi for series composition and Masahiro Suwa for adapting character designs into animation.

The franchise started out as a light novel series. The original light novels, as well as the manga adaptation (plus the The Reprise of the Spear Hero spinoff light novels and manga) are all published in America by One Peace Books. One Peace Books is also coming out with audiobooks for The Rising of the Shield Hero light novels, with the second also scheduled to be released in April. The publisher gave this description of the first volume of the novel:

“Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world!”
