October 20, 2009 Zebraman is BACK folks, or at least he’s on his way back as a sequel to Miike’s 2004 film, Show Aikawa once more starring as the titular hero. Production was announced on October 19th at a press conference at Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka, with actors Riisa Naka, Tsuyoshi Abe, Masahiro Inoue, and Show Aikawa alongside director Takashi Miike.
The full title of the sequel is Zebraman 2: Zebra City no Gyakushu (Zebra City’s Counter Attack), and is scheduled for release in Japan on May 1, 2010.
The film marks yet another milestone for lead-man Show Aikawa, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his acting debut. For those keeping score, the original Zebraman was the 100th film of Aikawa’s career. Let’s all celebrate by donning that ridiculous(ly awesome) Aikawa ‘do for Halloween!
